Shin splints — medically called medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) — are an overuse injury that causes pain along the inner edge of the shinbone (tibia).
They happen when the muscles, tendons, and bone tissue around the shin become irritated, usually from repetitive stress like running, jumping, or sudden increases in activity.
If pain persists or worsens, it’s worth checking for stress fractures or other causes, since they can feel similar but require different management.
Goal: Reduce inflammation, stimulate healing, and restore pain-free activity.
GOAL: Reduce inflammation, increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage & Stimulates tissue repair
Treatment Plan:2–3 sessions/week for 2–3 weeks, then taper as symptoms improve
GOAL: Breaks up adhesions and fibrosis, to stimulate angiogenesis and bone remodeling, Speeds chronic-to-acute tissue conversion for healing
Treatment Plan: 1 session/week for 3–5 weeks
Acute Phase (First 1–2 Weeks)
